Poliurethane

The polyurethane surface is a fully synthetic mixture of rubber granules (SBR/EPDM) and polyurethane binder.

Polyurethane surfaces are suitable for tennis courts, pitches, running tracks and playgrounds.

Purpose Surface characteristics Suitable bases
  • volleyball
  • handball
  • basketball
  • tennis
  • running tracks
  • long and high jump runways
  • badminton
  • playgrounds
  • multipurpose sports fields
  • seamless
  • water permeable
  • UV resistant
  • having multiple uses
  • very elastic (injury risk reduction)
  • guaranteeing excellent ball bounce
  • weather resistant
  • maintenance free
  • asphalt concrete
  • pervious concrete
  • crushed stone aggregate (in the case of a crushed stone base, a base layer composed of a mixture of rubber granules, polyurethane binder and fine quartz aggregate should be applied before the installation of the surface)

Most commonly installed systems

Depending on the purpose, polyurethane surfaces can be classified into the following groups according to their thickness, elasticity and permeability:

  1. A double layer surface with a total thickness of 13 mm. Installed on an asphalt concrete or concrete base. Suited for running tracks, multipurpose fields and the runways of track and field sports.

  2. A 13 mm thick single layer polyurethane surface. It is installed on an asphalt concrete or concrete base. It is used for covering multipurpose sports fields, running tracks, tennis courts and the runways of track and field sports.

  3. A 14 mm thick polyurethane-rubber surface. It is installed on an asphalt concrete or concrete base. It is used for covering running tracks and the runways of track and field sports.

  4. A 16 mm thick double layer surface. It is installed on an asphalt concrete or concrete base. It is used for covering multipurpose sports fields, recreation grounds, tennis courts, running tracks and the runways of track and field sports.

If a crushed aggregate base is used, a stabilizing base layer, the so-called ET, should be applied under the polyurethane surface. The layer consists of rubber granules and quartz aggregate bound with polyurethane binder. Polyurethane surfaces come in a wide variety of colours, the most popular and practical of which are brick red and green.

Safety of use

The field should be used for sports activities only. Objects exerting high pressure such as chairs and benches should not be put on the surface. Driving vehicles on the surface is also not recommended. The field should be constantly supervised by a person responsible for the safety of users. Before a game commences, players should do a warm-up. They should have their clothes, shoes and protective gear checked to make sure they are appropriate. Regular control of the technical condition of the surface and equipment is also important.
