Synthetic football grass is now a standard not only on training fields, but also in professional sports centers. To confirm its quality and performance parameters, it is possible to obtain a FIFA certificate – FIFA BASIC, FIFA QUALITY or FIFA QUALITY PRO.
Types of FIFA certificates:
FIFA BASIC
A basic level certificate, intended primarily for recreational and educational purposes. It provides fundamental standards for safety and comfort of surface use.
FIFA QUALITY
Intended for training and amateur facilities, it ensures appropriate parameters for regular training and lower-level competitions.
FIFA QUALITY PRO
Dedicated for professional competitions, it sets more demanding criteria regarding technical and performance parameters of the surface.
Who can apply for certification?
The certificate is awarded exclusively by FIFA to synthetic grass manufacturers who hold the appropriate license. The facility does not apply independently – certification is carried out by the manufacturer, who then provides a copy of the certificate for the specific field.
What does the certification process look like?
- Planning – already at the design stage, field dimensions, technical requirements, and substructure quality must be considered.
- Surface selection – choosing a FIFA-certified grass manufacturer.
- Laboratory tests – conducted by an accredited laboratory (testing durability, elasticity, ball interaction).
- Field tests – on the installed surface, at the installation site.
- FIFA decision – if results are positive, FIFA issues a certificate for the specific surface type and specific field.
How long is the certificate valid?
FIFA BASIC
Validity: 3 months from the certificate's issue date.
FIFA QUALITY
Validity: 3 years from the date of certificate issuance.
FIFA QUALITY PRO
Validity: 12 months (annual re-certification required).
